Is the worker free?
In our discussion in class, the idea of whether the worker is free was brought up. According to several of the readings, including Bravermen, the notion that workers are free is not the case. Braverman believes that the workers are not free. Rather, they are manipulated by management to create money. Management is built on the notion that workers are dispensable, and they can do what they wish with workers without fear. There is no freedom as growth, because the workers are not given any opportunity to grow. However, although division of labor in detail is not the best for the worker, it does not completely ruin the worker. The workers are still capable of living lives and are getting paid. A person's soul is not mortally destroyed by doing the same job over and over. Although it might not exactly be an American Dream, it is a job and it does need to be done. Americans are becoming so complacent. Most Americans believe that they are too good for factory or assembly line work. Thus, companies outsource labor because other countries are willing to do the jobs and work hard for the money. American factor and assembly line workers unionize and do not desire to do the work. As a result, the production is less for a greater amount of money. If American workers would buckle down and do the jobs that are available for the price presented, companies would not feel the need to get rid of labor to other countries.

The point was made that Americans are complacent and are unwilling to perform at the workplace in the same way foreign laborers do. Culturally are Americans becoming unable to survive on their own outside of social or government intervention? When faced with a bad job or not at all Americans feel cheated as if their very existence entitles them to be associated with production and earn an income that satisfies their wants. I use the words entitle, associate, and want purposefully in that sentence. Americans feel entitled if they do not feel they need to exchange much for a job and in the same way they are only associated to production because they are more concerned with the relation to the job than the work they produce (consider workers who watch the clock vs. workers who want accomplish a goal before the clock runs out). Also the income they desire reflects their wants vs. needs you need food you don’t need cigarettes or soda.
Is the worker is free? The worker is not free like what Braverman believes. They are not free because the manager or the capitalist has the right to do anything. The wage labor is also applied in the capitalism world, which means that the capitalist will get all the extra profit. This is the example of the status of worker in the capitalism world. I do support the economic democracy for the good of worker. The worker also has the right in the company profit as the profit is equally distributed for all. Besides that, the investment is controlled by the worker in the economic democracy which will reduce the hypermobility of the capitalism at the same time will give the benefit to the worker. In this term; economic democracy, the worker get more freedom and play their role in the company. The economic democracy should be apply for the whole country in this world.
